Police Urge Public to Avoid Area Amid “Critical Incident” in Thornton, Illinois
THORNTON, Ill. — On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, residents of Thornton’s Bonnie Court neighborhood were urged to remain inside and steer clear of the area as police responded to what was officially deemed a “critical incident.” Authorities confirmed that the situation began with a stolen vehicle pursuit, and emergency vehicles descended on the scene just before 3:45 p.m.
According to officials, the suspect had fled the stolen vehicle and sought refuge in a nearby home.

The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was dispatched to the location to manage the unfolding situation and secure the scene. Throughout the afternoon, residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid the streets of Bonnie and Highland, where law enforcement activity was intensifying.

Authorities provided reassurance that the incident posed no ongoing danger to the wider community.

By approximately 5:30 p.m., the suspect had been taken into custody, and the lockdown was lifted. Charges are currently pending, though no additional details about the suspect or potential victims have been released at this time.

Local officials thanked residents for their cooperation and patience during the response.

While police and emergency units worked to resolve the incident, citizens were reminded of the importance of following official guidance during rapidly evolving situations.
